Nancy Calamusa MA,CCC-SLP, C/NMES, NNT  – Founding Director

 

Nancy received her BA degree in communication disorders at Douglass College, Rutgers University, and her of Master of Arts in Speech Pathology from Kean University, where she was awarded a graduate assistantship.  She is an International Speaker and Expert in pediatric feeding and swallowing disorders having extensive knowledge and nearly 25 years of experience in the field of pediatric feeding and swallowing disorders encompassing a wide variety of settings.  She provides in-depth assessment of all aspects of feeding, swallowing, and mealtime resulting in a specifically designed treatment program addressing the child's as well as the family's needs.  Nancy was responsible for instituting outpatient and inpatient pediatric feeding and swallowing therapy programs at the Bristol Myer Squibb Children's Hospital, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick, NJ where she was instrumental in establishing programs for the neonatal intensive care unit, pediatric intensive care unit, and the pediatric oncology unit.   She is the owner of New Jersey Pediatric Feeding Associates in East Brunswick which offers quality speech, feeding, and swallowing therapy to the pediatric population.   Nancy has been employed in various settings including Early Intervention, medical facilities, and private institutions as well as offering private therapy.  Nancy has provided educational in-services, lectures, and training workshops for physicians, medical students, colleagues, parents, graduate students and the community.  She has spent the last 15 years of her career educating and training in the area of pediatric dysphagia.  Nancy continues to serve as a mentor to graduate students and clinical fellows in the field of speech pathology. Her expertise has led to great successes with rehabilitating/restoring swallow function to critically injured and medically fragile children.  She is currently under review for her Board Certification in Swallowing Speciality (BCS-S) Nancy has been educated and trained in neurodevelopmental treatment, certified in VitalStim, trained in the Guardian System for NMES (neuromuscular electrical stimulation), and an international clinical advisor for Guardian Way under the Spectramed Brand for Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation.  Nancy has conducted national and international educational workshops and courses on the subject of pediatric feeding disorders and NMES.  Additionally, she us certified in Beckman Oral Motor, SOS Approach to Feeding, VitalStim, Guardian NMES, and FEES (pediatric fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing). Active Member of, and Certified by, the American Speech-Language Hearing Association. Member Special Division 13 on swallowing disorders.
