This Halloween, Spectrum Tech Trade School, Village, and Training Center is proud to bring sensory-friendly joy to over 500 children and families at the Ocean First Candy Coated Trunk or Treat on October 21st, 2025, in Toms River, NJ.
For many autistic and neurodivergent children, traditional holiday events can be overwhelming. Loud noises, flashing lights, crowded spaces, and unpredictable social interactions often lead to sensory overload, making participation difficult or even impossible. That’s why we’re creating a Sensory-Friendly Table—a safe, welcoming space filled with tools and resources designed to meet the needs of every child.
🧠 What We’re Offering:
Sensory bags filled with sensory toys and tools
Bilingual autism resources in English and Spanish
Information on autism in girls, who are often diagnosed after age 18
Trauma-informed support for families navigating the journey
Posters, handouts, and inclusive activities
A preview of our upcoming Sensory-Friendly Trunk or Treat Guide, designed to help other organizations replicate inclusive events and foster long-term sustainability of our mission
💛 Why This Matters:
Marginalized and bilingual communities are disproportionately underdiagnosed due to systemic barriers, language gaps, and lack of culturally responsive care. According to Rutgers University, 1 in 4 children with autism are undiagnosed, and most are Black or Hispanic. Girls are especially overlooked—80% are diagnosed after age 18, missing critical early support.
We believe every child deserves to feel safe, seen, and celebrated. That’s why we’re asking our community to sponsor a child for $25. Your donation helps us provide sensory bags, educational resources, and trauma-informed care to families who need it most.
